Facade Restoration & Coatings

Lasher Construction has the capability to complete any size facade restoration project. Lasher Contracting operates as both a sub-contractor and prime contractor on facade restorations. We understand that restoration projects have a higher risk of substantial change orders. However Lasher provides has helped their clients save millions by because of their diligence and experience when bidding on a facade restoration.

Historic Restoration
Historic restoration is different than most restoration work for two reasons. First is that historic projects are predominately made of materials infrequently encountered in modern structures. Terra cotta, marble, limestone, and brownstone materials are common in historic facades and rarely used in newer projects. The second issue that makes historic work different is that many projects are nearing that “priceless” value, especially in large statuary restoration.

We are proud of the craftsmanship and historic experience we bring to historic restoration projects. We have experience with each of the materials listed above and numerous other skills that these unique projects require.

Architectural Coatings
A key result of any restoration project is a dramatic improvement in the appearance of the property once all work is completed. Concrete patches do not closely match existing concrete consistently, so an architectural coating must be part of any restoration plan to avoid the blotchy look after a concrete repair project.

Architectural Coatings consist of more than "paint". Coatings with a vast array of different physical properties are available because of the continually improving technology. Coatings that are waterproof, water resistant, breathable, elastomeric, thin build, high build and/or various combinations of these properties have been developed and field tested.

Concrete coating technology has changed incredibly over the last two decades, as engineers have demanded more options in coatings. Manufacturers have responded by developing several types of concrete coatings to meet the engineers' demands. Call Lindman to see all options to provide your facility with a beautiful long term coating.

Painting is a bad word in Historic Restoration. However, several architectural coatings using mineral based technology for historic work have been accepted by curators and conservators on historic register projects. The technology is not driven by chemical advances, but advances in taking colored rock minerals and grinding them into fine powders to provide the range of colors needed at a reasonable cost in the coatings and stains have been accepted. These materials are designed to penetrate and bond with the existing substrate while having a rock like toughness. The life of these coatings can be four times than of a good grade exterior paint have been accepted.

Facade Restoration
Facade Restoration projects can include many components. Concrete repair, masonry repair, balcony repair, caulking replacement, architectural coatings and historic restoration are six of the more common components of a façade restoration project. What makes facade projects different from plaza, garage and other projects is the high cost of accessing the work area.

Installing scaffolding, swing stages, manlifts or access equipment is very expensive. If your specialty contractor cannot perform all of the needed repair items, you are faced with hiring a second contractor who then must install access equipment a second time. No owner wants to incur these access costs twice.

Lasher specializes in facade renovation projects, and has the in-house capabilities to perform every task from caulking to intricate carving of historic renovation projects. One call does it all.

Masonry Restoration
We have extensive experience with masonry repair, both to historic masonry dwellings as well as to more modern cavity wall construction. We perform repairs on deteriorated brick as well as to address leaks through the masonry walls. We also install new control joints and pin the exterior wythe to the back up wall in cavity wall construction.

While tuck-pointing and through wall flashing repairs are the most common projects we encounter, Lasher has also removed and replaced entire wall sections. Repair of parapets and retaining walls are also common projects we have extensive experience with.

With an office in Washington DC, we have performed repairs on many historic projects, some very high profile. We have repaired leaks in the west wing of one famous house, but the leaks we fixed involved moisture penetratio

Thank you and your great team for getting our project done timely and correctly. The board was extremely happy with the final cost of the project and finishing a week ahead of time.
